2021 CAMRT-BC Award Recipients

The Member Recognition and Awards Program was established by CAMRT-BC to showcase the talent and professionalism of CAMRT-BC members and students enrolled in accredited medical radiation technology education programs.  We received nominations in five award categories this year. Along with the Bracco Paragon Award, we are pleased to recognize six CAMRT-BC members for winning awards.

Bracco Paragon Award

This award is provided by Bracco Diagnostics each year to the MRT from British Columbia who achieved the highest score on the certification exam across all disciplines.

The CAMRT-BC is pleased to present this award to Heather Stephaniuk, RTR, RTMR

Heather achieved the highest score among all CAMRT certification exam candidates from British Columbia in 2020. She is a recent graduate of BCIT’s Magnetic Resonance Imaging Advanced Certificate program. After completing her medical radiography diploma from Camosun College in 2018, she worked at Lady Minto Hospital on Salt Spring Island. She completed her MRI courses while on maternity leave and is now a full time MRI technologist, rotating between Victoria General Hospital and Royal Jubilee Hospital.

Award of Excellence

The Award of Excellence is presented to individuals who consistently demonstrate excellence in technical proficiency and innovation. While never compromising patient care, the recipients of this award ensure every procedure is carried out to the highest possible standard. These individuals are respected by their coworkers for the care and attention in performing all procedures.

There are three recipients for the Award of Excellence this year.

 

The CAMRT-BC is pleased to present the Award of Excellence – Radiological Technology to Devin Kruchio, RTR

Devin graduated from the BCIT Medical Radiography program in 2015. He is part of the medical imaging team at Vancouver General Hospital, recently moving from working primarily in the operating rooms to a new position in Interventional Radiology.

“Devon embodies everything this award stands for: meticulous, technologically savvy, innovative, and respected. He is a highly engaged member of the team, in continuous pursuit of professional development. In every role, he shares his knowledge and develops training resources for the benefit of students and colleagues.”

 

 

 

 

The CAMRT-BC is pleased to present the Award of Excellence – Radiation Therapy to Robynn Ferris, RTT

Robynn has been an MRT for over 21 years, working at BC Cancer – Vancouver. She considers herself very lucky to have a profession that integrates patient care, teamwork, science, and research, with opportunities for continuous learning and improvement. As part of her own professional growth, Robynn obtained her Medical Dosimetrist Certification in 2011. In her current role as a Resource Therapist, she provides leadership and advocates for best practice in the Radiation Therapy Planning Department.

“Robynn is well respected among her colleagues and goes out of her way to make each day better. During these trying times, her sunny disposition and helpful attitude has helped boost morale in her department. She is solution focused and a very hard worker.”

 

 

 

 

The CAMRT-BC is pleased to present the Award of Excellence – Nuclear Medicine to Rebekah Bahr, RTNM

Rebekah graduated from the BCIT Nuclear Medicine program in 1998 and has been performing PET scans for more than 20 years. Since 2005, she has been working as a PET/CT Technologist at BC Cancer Vancouver and has been a Student Supervisor for most of her career. Rebekah is passionate about providing the best patient care and is committed to educating future technologists.

Rebekah was one of the key contributors to the opening of the first PET/CT department in BC and continues to pursue opportunities to advance the profession. She is involved in education, research, and is one of the most respected technologists in the nuclear medicine community.”

 

 

 

Excellence in Teaching Award

This award is presented to an MRT who demonstrates outstanding contributions in enhancing the teaching and learning experience of students during their educational program. The recipient of this award actively engages students within the academic and/or clinical environment.  This individual remains up to date with practice standards and ensures students aspire to reach their full potential.

The CAMRT-BC is pleased to present this award to Rebekah Bahr, RTNM

Rebekah graduated from the BCIT Nuclear Medicine program in 1998 and has been performing PET scans for more than 20 years. Since 2005, she has been working as a PET/CT Technologist at BC Cancer Vancouver and has been a Student Supervisor for most of her career. Rebekah is passionate about providing the best patient care and is committed to educating future technologists.

“Rebekah has been instrumental in collaborating with BCIT to grow the PET/CT training opportunities for students at BC Cancer Vancouver. She incorporates a variety of teaching approaches to help students achieve their clinical competencies and inspires students to strive for excellence.”

 

Young Professional Award

This award is presented to an MRT who has been practicing for five years or less, and yet has made a significant contribution to the profession at the beginning of their career.  This individual acts as a role model of professionalism and volunteerism. This individual demonstrates an early and ongoing interest in the endeavors of Medical Radiation Technologists.

The CAMRT-BC is pleased to present this award to Megan Groenendijk, RTR

Megan was born and raised in the Cowichan Valley on her family’s second-generation dairy farm. Since 2018, she has worked as a Radiological Technologist at Cowichan District Hospital, Lady Minto Hospital, and Salt Spring Island. Outside of this career, she is a teacher teaching on-call (TTOC) in the Cowichan Valley School District. She enjoys being a part of many different communities within the Valley and is proud to be making a difference in the inter-professional care team.

“Megan is one of the hardest working individuals that I have met in the industry. She works at multiple hospitals, picks up shifts as a teacher on call, helps work her family farm, and finds time to volunteer. She has a long list of academic accomplishments and is working to advance her knowledge and capabilities within the field.”

Innovative Leader Award

This award is presented to an MRT who has demonstrated excellence in leadership. The recipient of this award may hold a formal leadership position or may demonstrate leadership within their work/professional environment.  This individual has earned the respect of coworkers through their efforts to contribute to the practice of excellence within their department/organization.  They exemplify professional leadership by upholding the values of Medical Radiation Technologists.  Through their efforts, there is a significant impact on the advancement of excellence in MRT practice.

The CAMRT-BC is pleased to present this award to Ravinder Jhawer, RTR, RTMR

Ravinder is the Site Coordinator at St Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver. Throughout her career, she has practiced in several medical imaging modalities, including general radiography, interventional radiology, CT, and MRI, across multiple sites in the Lower Mainland. She is passionate about her profession and making a difference for her colleagues and patients. As a leader among her peers, she continues to promote and influence a culture of professional development and excellent patient care.

“Ravinder demonstrates an exceptional level of support for her colleagues and is genuinely concerned for their well-being. Even when under intense pressure, she remains calm and keeps a positive attitude. She focuses on building relationships, boosting morale, and making sure everyone feels valued.”
