The William Doern Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship recipient testimony
“I am very honoured to be this year’s recipient of the William Doern Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship and would like to express my sincere gratitude towards the CAMRT Foundation. As a radiation therapy student at the University of Alberta, I continually strive to be a community-oriented leader, balancing my volunteer efforts with my academic and employment commitments. This award will not only help ease the financial burden of completing my degree in radiation therapy; it is also an invaluable recognition of my leadership pursuits and inspires me to continue looking for ways to give back to the community. Thank you again for your generosity!”

Testimonials
I am extremely grateful to be a recipient for this year’s CAMRT Foundation Grant. As an individual who has always had a keen desire for lifelong learning, I can say that following professional development and educational pursuits can be both rewarding and challenging, as they require delicate financial, work and social balances. Beginning my Master of Health Management was a scary step but a step I knew I needed to take to continue my leadership journey. The CAMRT Foundation Grant has provided me with not only the financial but also the invaluable professional support to help me grow into a confident MRT leader for tomorrow.
– Rebecca Jessome, BHSc, RTNM, RTMR
I was very honoured and happy to learn that I was the recipient of the William Doern Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship of $1000.00. I want to sincerely thank you for your generous financial support towards my higher education.
Being able to accept an award that represents a community-oriented leader with a strong academic background in a medical radiation technology program is a true honour. I am grateful for all of the MRTs I have met who have inspired me to be a better leader within my community. I find it truly amazing that the CAMRT Foundation makes it a priority to help students achieve their academic goals.
I have faced many challenges during my academic career, despite these challenges I have never given up on my dream to be a Medical Radiation Technologist. I am very grateful for people like yourselves who help others in need and give them the opportunity to achieve their goals. This scholarship has made an enormous impact on my life. My program is highly demanding and does not leave much time to pursue work. I am so appreciative that this scholarship lifts a great burden of stress and finances off of me, and allows me to put my education first, so I can continue to focus and accomplish my goal of becoming a Medical Radiation Technologist, so I can help others going through difficult times.
I previously graduated Cambrian College with a Pre-Health Sciences certificate. I am now finished my second year of the Medical Radiation Technology program at Cambrian College, and I am currently completing my hospital placement for a year of hands-on training to practice my skills. The reasoning behind my desire to pursue a career in Medical Radiation Technology has come from volunteering. During my time volunteering, many healthcare professionals showed patients dedication, courage, compassion, confidence and respect. By displaying these exemplary qualities, they taught me how to be selfless and showed me that an act of kindness can make a difference in so many people’s lives. As you have done for me with this scholarship. From here I decided to make it my goal to be a person who helps improve the quality of life for others. Volunteering gave me the chance to help people and find a career I am passionate about, and I constantly encourage others to take advantage of this opportunity, because it allows you to learn and show kindness to others who truly need it.
By awarding me the William Doern Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship, I am able to concentrate on what is important for me, education. Your financial generosity has allowed me to be one step closer to my goal and has inspired me to help others by giving back to the community. I hope one day I will be able to help other students achieve their goal just as you have helped me. Thank you again!
– Alanna Pullen
I would like to extend my appreciation to the CAMRT Foundation Grant Committee for your support. I have received the grant to subsidize my MA in Intercultural and International Communication.
Again, thank you very much for the committee’s hard work.
– Cynthia Palmaria
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your letter dated May 6th, 2019. I am extremely proud to learn that the CAMRT Foundation Executive Committee had favorably considered my request for funding of my current research project. I cannot tell you how excited I am to do this work but I am also relieved for the financial support! Your generous gift will ease some of the financial burden associated with such a project.
I believe the study my research team and I are undertaking may potentially advance our profession and enable access to patient imaging and care. Thank you for supporting me in my journey and advocating for lifelong learning.
– Elizabeth Lorusso, MRT (MR), MRSO (MRSC™), MRT(R), XSO, RTR, B Appl Sc
I want to express my sincere gratitude for the generous support that the CAMRT Foundation provided me with as I endeavoured to grow my professional development by studying at the University of Regina’s Johnson – Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy. I was very fortunate to be awarded a member’s grant in both 2017 and again in 2019. The Foundation’s financial support assisted me in completing the requirements of the Master of Health Administration (MHA) program, a graduate degree that is designed to “build management, administrative and policy capacity for the next generation of health sector leaders.”
I believe that the skills and knowledge that I gained as a student in the MHA program contributed to my recent professional success. Since my enrollment in the MHA program in 2016, I have moved into several ever-increasing leadership roles within BC Cancer, culminating with my current position as a provincial leader of a multidisciplinary clinical informatics team whose goal is to facilitate the readiness, implementation, and sustainment of a major systems transformation project.
Thank you to the CAMRT Foundation for its commitment to supporting the academic and professional development aspirations of its members.
– Adrian White, RT(T), MHA
A sincere thank you to the CAMRT Foundation for financial assistance as I work toward my Bachelor Degree in Health Sciences. This education funding is a true asset; not only in monetary value, but also in allowing me to focus more time on my educational pursuits.
– Arlene Holland, MRT, CTIC
I would like to sincerely thank the CAMRT Foundation for the financial assistance provided to me over the course of my Masters in Health Studies program. This past month I completed my MHS and the support of the CAMRTF was instrumental in helping me achieve this goal.
The CAMRT Foundation is doing important work by supporting members in their academic pursuits. A dedication to continuous learning requires a significant commitment, both in terms of time and finances. These grants help to lighten the financial burden of continuing education and the support of one’s peers is also a great motivator along the way.
– Jill Sutherland RTT, BSc
Thank-you once again for the continued support as I complete my Master of Education (Health Science Education) degree at the University of Alberta. I am truly appreciative of the financial support that the members grant provides to our professional group. This grant has eased the financial burden of pursuing an advanced degree and has allowed me to focus completely on my studies.
– Jackie Middleton BA, RTT, HS
This grant has significantly alleviated the financial burden of pursuing a MSc. in Project Management. Thanks to your support, my education has led to new opportunities for me in managing MRTs, promoting professional development, advancement of clinical practice and advocacy for greater academic work within the profession.
We are fortunate to have a grant program such as this to support MRTs in their educational endeavours. This support alleviates the financial barriers that may discourage or prevent others from pursuing their goals. Continuing education is integral to the advancement of our profession and ensuring the highest quality practice in medical imaging and radiation therapy.
– Lyndon Morley, BSc, MSc (cand), RTT, CMD
