CAMRT-MB Archives

Created by Medical Radiation Technologists (MRTs) for MRTs, the Manitoba Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (MAMRT) was incorporated in 1956, but had its beginnings in Manitoba long before – in 1929 – when William (Bill) Doern (1902-2003) and Claude James Bodle (1986 – 1980) formed the very first association in Canada for those engaged in the then infant science of radiological technique.

The MAMRT served as the professional voice of MRTs in Manitoba for 94 years.  In 2022, the MAMRT made the proactive decision to dissolve the association.  Beginning  January 1, 2023, CAMRT-MB, an arm of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists replaced the MAMRT.  This move was initiated to support MRTs as we move to become a self-regulated profession in Manitoba.

To coincide with the 90th Anniversary of the Manitoba Association of Medical Radiation Technologists in 2019, the MAMRT embarked on an Archives project to organize and catalogue the archives and artifacts of the MAMRT.  With the dissolution of the MAMRT in 2022/2023, a donation has been made to the Manitoba Provincial Archives, and memorabilia and artifacts have also been donated to HSC Archives, the Manitoba Museum and the Western Manitoba Aviation Museum.

Thank you to Manitoba Sport, Culture and Heritage for their support of this project through the Heritage Grants Program.
