CAMRT-MB Provincial Advisory Council

The CAMRT-MB Advisory Council offers expertise and support to the CAMRT Board of Directors and staff regarding issues relating to MRT practice and provincial member services in Manitoba. It is a critical voice in representing MRTs in Manitoba, assessing member needs in areas such as continuing professional development, advocacy, social events, awards and member recognition. Jo Vaquilar, BSc, RTR, RTMR

Role: MRI Technologist, Selkirk Regional Health Centre

Jo Vaquilar has achieved a Bachelor of Science from the University of Winnipeg and has also completed RRC Polytech MRT and MRI programs.  In 2017 she received the MAMRT MRI Registration Award for achieving the highest standing on the National Certification examination for MRI in Manitoba.  Jo currently works as a General Duty MRI Technologist at Selkirk Regional Health Centre.  She has also worked as an MRI technologist at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg and St. Paul’s Hospital in downtown Vancouver.  Along with her experience as an MRI tech, Jo has also contributed to the healthcare setting as a Radiological Technologist, respite worker and counsellor for Klinic Crisis/Sexual Assault Crisis Lines.  Jo is a first-generation immigrant who is cognizant of diversity and the importance of listening to other peoples unique experiences when advocating for all MRTs.  She has a goal to advocate for better work-life balance for MRT.  In her spare time she enjoys walking her dog Bowser, playing board games with friends and having coffee with her partner.

 

 

 

Sandra Luke, RTR, RTMR, ACR, CAE, RSO-1

Role: Instructor, Medical Radiological Technology Program – Red River College Polytech

 

Sandra Luke graduated from the St. Boniface General Hospital School of Radiography program (Winnipeg) in 1989.  This was the start of a career in which she has held many roles – general radiography technologist, mammographer, clinical instructor (MRT), didactic instructor (MRI/S, MRT), DI department manager, and quality assurance manager for the regional DI program.  Sandra was fortunate as well to work as an RTR in Australia for a short time.  She currently works at Red River College Polytechnic as an instructor in the MRT program.   In 2002 she earned her Advanced Certification, Radiography status while simultaneously receiving her MRI/S diploma from Red River College.  In 2019, she completed the Radiation Safety Officer Level 1 course and leads several programs at Red River College Polytechnic under this umbrella. Sandra started volunteering for her provincial organization, MAMRT, as the public relations spokesperson.  The same year she started her lengthy tenure volunteering with the CAMRT.  Sandra has volunteered with the CAMRT for over 20 years.  Sandra has held many volunteer positions with CAMRT over the years, these include: Judge for National/Essay Exhibit Competition, Best Practice Guidelines Committee (MRI), Item Writing Committee (Radiography), Research Grant Committee, CAMRT Board of Directors (Treasurer – 2yrs, VP 1yr), Nominating Committee, Course/Webinar Reviewer, Professional Practices Advisory Council, Exam Validation Committee (member and Chair), Facilitator for a full length CPD course, Advocacy Advisory Council, Education Advisory Council.  Sandra advocates for the MRT profession at every opportunity given to her, be it through media publications that she has written or speaking opportunities.  She promotes volunteerism to her students and colleagues and is constantly recruiting MRTs for volunteer positions both at the provincial and national levels.  She is proud to be recognized in the MRT community as a champion of the profession and loves to share her knowledge obtained through her many years of experience.  Sandra is a committed volunteer and her dedication to the profession was proven during her own personal battle with cancer as she continued to work and made a trip to Ottawa for a board of directors meeting while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

 

 

 

Tynnille Chomenchuk Bouchard, BSc, RTT, CTRT

Role: Senior Radiation Therapist – Western Manitoba Cancer Centre

 

Tynnille Chomenchuk Bouchard is a Senior Radiation Therapist at the Western Manitoba Cancer Centre in Brandon.  She graduated from the CancerCare Manitoba School of Radiation Therapy in 2011 and completed her Bachelor of Science in Radiation Therapy through The University of Winnipeg in 2016.  Tynnille is a graduate of the CAMRT Leadership Development Institute (2017) and completed her CTRT imaging certification through the CAMRT in 2018.  Tynnille has been a long time volunteer for the profession provincially.  She has served as the MAMRT Assistant Director of Communications and Interim Director of Communications, School of Radiation Therapy Exam Question Development, CancerCare Manitoba Department Curriculum Committee – WMCC Representative,  radiation therapy representative on the MAMRT Ad-Hoc Committee for Self-regulation since 2015 and was the final President of the MAMRT prior to its dissolution.  In 2012 Tynnille presented at the joint CAMRT AGC/ISRRT World Congress in Toronto where she spoke about a student led initiative on creating a student body support system.  Tynnille has received both academic and honorary recognition for her dedication to the profession.  Some of her awards and acknowledgements include:  CCMB & MAMRT General Proficiency Award in Radiation Therapy (2011), MAMRT (Wm) Bill Doern Service Award (2016), MAMRT Early Professional Achievement Award (2019), MAMRT Award for Team Excellence for her work with the Self-Regulation committee (2021).  Tynnille is passionate about advocating for MRTs and brining public awareness to the profession.  In her spare time Tynnille enjoys spending time with her family and also teaches Ukrainian dance.

 

 

 

Emily Wood, BSc, RTR

Role: General Duty Radiological Technologist – Health Sciences Centre

 

Emily Wood is a General Duty Radiological Technologist at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.  She provides imaging in various roles within the facility including portable and forensics, ER and inpatients as well as outpatient clinics, operating room, endoscopy and central line placement.  During her undergrad, Emily had the privilege of being awarded a seat through Explore Canada to study French for a term in Trois-Rivières, Québec.  While in Québec she was able to live and learn while immersed in the language.  In 2017 Emily earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, graduating with honors on the Dean’s List of Highest Distinction.  In 2019 Emily graduated from Red River College Polytech once again graduating with honors.  While attending RRC, Emily worked in the Academic Success Center as both a lab and academic tutor.  Emily is a passionate advocate and ally for the LGBTQ2S+ community.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time at her cabin, hiking or cuddling up at home with her kitten.

 

 

 

Laura Martineau, RTR, CAE

Role: Technical Instructor, Pediatric DI – Winnipeg Children’s Hospital

 

Laura Martineau began her MRT career working at Toronto Hospital for Sick Kids (1993 – 1995) and Melbourne’s Royal Children & Womens’ Hospital (1995-1999).  Upon returning to Canada, she worked as an MRT technologist and later, Clinical Instructor at HSC Radiology Department in Winnipeg.  In June 2015, Laura made the move over to Children’s Hospital where she now serves as the Technical Instructor for Child Health, Pediatric Imaging Department.  Laura was a valued member of the Shard Health Provincial Non Lead Shielding Committee and the Shared Health Diagnostic Imaging Standards Committee.  Laura has also been a long-time supporter and co-organizer of the “Bear-ly Diagnostic” tent at the Annual Teddy Bear’s Picnic in Winnipeg where she and the team image over 3,000 bears during the one day event.  Laura looks forward to the return of the Annual Teddy Bear’s Picnic where she can share her love of Radiography  as well as teach the children and their families how radiology benefits all.  Laura is excited about the future of the CAMRT-MB and wishes for success it all its endeavors.

 

 

 

Lindsay Cross, RTNM, CTIC(N)

Role: Technical Instructor/Radiation Safety Officer – Health Sciences Centre

 

Lindsay Cross has been working as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist since 2013 after graduating from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.  She completed her clinical training in Winnipeg and was awarded both the General Proficiency Award in Nuclear Medicine and the MAMRT Registration Award for Nuclear Medicine in 2013.  She began her career working in the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre Radiopharmacy and doing research for the Radiopharmaceutical Research Group.  In 2014, she started her imaging career at the HSC Nuclear Medicine Department and in October 2022 moved into the role of Clinical Instructor and Radiation Safety Officer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Christiana Iweadinobi, RTMR

Role: MRI Technologist – Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre/Selkirk Regional Health Centre

 

Christiana Iweadinobi has achieved a Bachelor of Science in Radiography and Radiological Sciences from the University of Nigeria as well as an advanced diploma in MRI and Spectroscopy from Red River College Polytech.  Christiana is also a first-generation immigrant to Canada and currently works as an MRI technologist at both Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre and the Selkirk Regional Health Centre.  With a passion for diagnostic imaging and patient care, Christiana has an interest in obtaining an MSc in MRI and Spectroscopy in the near future.  Christiana believes CAMRT-MB has the capacity to become a strong voice in diagnostic imaging across Canada and hopes to see our members become vocal and involved in provincial activities.  Christiana has extensive experience in hospital practice, network relations, education, sales and regulatory compliance.  When not working as an MRT, Christiana enjoys making new friends, appreciating nature and spending time with family.

 

 

 

Crystal Kobe, BSc, RTT, CDC

Role:  Didactic and Clinical Treatment Planning Educator – CancerCare Manitoba School of Radiation Therapy

 

Crystal Kobe began her career at the Vancouver Cancer Centre in British Columbia (2002-2009).  In 2010 she moved to Winnipeg and has been working as both a didactic and clinical instructor with the CancerCare Manitoba School of Radiation Therapy ever since.  Crystal is a graduate of the CAMRT Leadership Development Institute (2015) and completed her Canadian Dosimetry Certificate (CDC) in 2020.  She participated in the CAMRT Future of MRT Education Symposium (2015) and currently sits on the CDC Committee and is the instructor of the CAMRT Dosimetry 1 course.  Crystal has been recognized for her contributions to the MRT profession with honorary awards such as the MAMRT (Wm.) Bill Doern Service Award (2018), MAMRT Award for Team Excellence as part of the School of RT team (2018) and her research paper The Second Victim Phenomenon: Perspective of Canadian Radiation Therapists was chosen by the Canadian Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences as Editor’s Choice Award for Top 5 paper (2019).  Crystal is an advocate for the MRT profession and believes CAMRT-MB is in a n excellent position to serve the members at the provincial and national levels.  In her spare time, you can find Crystal spending time with her husband and kids, 2 cats and dog or volunteering within her community.
