A message from CAMRT President, Deborah Murley, RTR on International Voluntee Day

The theme for International Volunteer Day (IVD) 2014 is Make Change Happen; Volunteer.  This day is a celebration of volunteerism in all its facets – but also

provides the opportunity to pay special tribute to people’s participation in making a difference locally, nationally and globally.
I invite all CAMRT members to join with me in saluting the hundreds of volunteers whose tireless efforts to advance our profession truly make our world a better place. Locally, we have dedicated provincial leaders who organize conferences and professional development programmes, advocate on your behalf with key decision makers, and manage your provincial organization’s affairs efficiently. Nationally, we rely on our dedicated board of directors to advance the CAMRT mission, set a visionary strategic direction, and serve as stewards of our assets and our notable reputation. That reputation is earned in large part through the commitment of those volunteers who assist in the creation and validation of our highly regarded certification examinations, and advise us on professional practice trends, assisting us to provide programs and services that anticipate the current AND future needs of our members. Volunteers also dedicate many hours to help us recognize excellence by serving as judges in our awards program, and share their expertise through conference presentations and articles in our publications. CAMRT members are also making change happen globally- through involvement with the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists (ISRRT). Serving on the board of the ISRRT are Dr Terry Ell, Vice President of the Americas and Alain Cromp, Director of Public Relations. Other active Canadian volunteers are Dr Robin Hesler, Regional Coordinator for Education, the Americas , and newly appointed Council Member, Marcia Smoke. Their contributions support the worthy work carried out in support of the ISRRT theme, Advancing Imaging and Healing Globally. On 5 December, 2014 join us in recognizing all volunteers’ commitment and applaud hundreds of millions of people who volunteer to make change happen.
The CAMRT offers many opportunities for members to get involved and strengthen our professional community, whether for a short time or in a more permanent role. Visit the list of opportunities on our website, or contact the CAMRT office to let staff know of your interests.
