Continuing Education Credits Approval Program (CECAP)
What is CECAP?
CECAP (Continuing Education Credit Approval Program) exists to ensure the provision of high quality activities that contribute to the ongoing competence and personal / professional development of medical radiation technologists (MRTs). Through its status as a Recognized Continuing Education Evaluation Mechanism (RCEEM), the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) has established CECAP to evaluate and recognize continuing education activities either held or available in Canada that are relevant to medical radiation technologists. In order to qualify as continuing education, the activity must be planned, organized and provide sufficient depth and scope of a subject area.
Why apply to CECAP?
CECAP provides a mechanism for earning continuing education credits for professional development activities. Medical radiation technologists who are registered with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT), including those who live in Canada, must earn continuing education credits in order to renew their registration. Every two years, technologists registered with the ARRT must earn 24 Credits, of which a minimum of 12 must be Category "A" Credits (i.e. approved by a RCEEM program such as CECAP). As such, providers and sponsors of continuing education programs will want to secure Category "A" Credits value on educational activities and programs.
Obtaining educational credits is easy.
Gaining approval for educational activities is fairly simple and requires the submission of an application form. Medical radiation technologists participating in educational events should expect to receive some sort of documentation that clearly identifies the participation or successful completion of the educational activity. Please contact the CAMRT Professional Development Coordinator for further information.
Determining Program Eligibility
A continuing education activity eligible for credit is a planned program relevant to the radiologic sciences profession. The subject matter must be of sufficient scope to meet the program objectives and cover specific skills to be attained. A written course outline must include the major and minor topics covered, and the presenter must have credentials relevant to the material presented. Topics must be at least 30 minutes in length to receive continuing education credit.
It is strongly recommended that applications be sent to CECAP 30 days prior to the continuing education activity so that materials can be processed and returned before the date of the program. This will allow for the Committee evaluating the activities to make suggestions or recommendations to your program, if necessary. The deadline for submission of all documentation (including forms and fees) is no later than 10 working days prior to the educational activity. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
