Aon Reed Stenhouse is pleased to be the assigned broker for the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists’ Professional Liability Insurance Program. Aon has been a leader in the Canadian insurance field for more than 150 years. Today, Aon Reed Stenhouse has 26 branches across Canada, with a unit dedicated solely to national group professional liability programs in the Ottawa office. Ing Novex Insurance Company of Canada will be the insurance company providing professional liability insurance to CAMRT members in 2008.

Professional Liability

• Protects you against liability/allegations for damages resulting from a negligent act, error, omission or malpractice arising out of your profession including radiography performed by Registered Technologists in Radiological Technology (RTR); radiation therapy performed by Registered Technologists in Radiation Therapy (RTT); nuclear medicine procedures performed by Registered Technologists in Nuclear Medicine (RTNM); magnetic resonance imaging performed by Registered Technologists in Radiography (RTR), Registered Technologists in Radiation Therapy (RTT) and Registered Technologists in Nuclear Medicine (RTNM); ultrasonography performed by Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS); ultrasonography performed by trained Francophone medical radiation technologists (CAMRT permission required); and combined radiography and laboratory functions performed by Combined Technologists and as further defined by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists.

• Coverage is on a "claims made" basis, which means that the policy must be in place at the time a claim is reported. If an occurrence takes place that may give rise to a claim, it is imperative that you report it to Aon at 1-800-267-9364 immediately.

• Former members who leave the profession (including unemployment) continue to be automatically covered for any professional services rendered.

• CAMRT members who wish coverage while practicing ultrasonography in the areas in which they are registered must present to the CAMRT Office written evidence of holding the RDMS designation. Francophone members who complete the OTRQ Continuing Education courses in ultrasound, pass the examinations and have a letter from their employer attesting to their competence, may apply to CAMRT for coverage.

Extensions

Criminal Defense Costs Reimbursement Coverage

Covers members for a court case filed under the Criminal Code. The Insurer will provide reimbursement provided that (a) the criminal charge arises from your practice in Canada; (b) the proceedings must pertain to alleged misconduct while rendering professional services; and (c) you are found “not guilty” of the criminal charge.

• Limits of Liability:
• Per member, Per Occurrence: $100,000
• Per Member, Annual Aggregate: $100,000
• Deductible: Nil

Legal Expense Coverage

Covers members for complaints including professional misconduct, sexual abuse or sexual harassment the provincial regulatory boards.

• Limits of Liability:
  • Per member, Per Occurrence: $25,000
  • Per Member, Annual Aggregate: $100,000
  • Deductible: Nil

Coroner's Hearings Coverage

Covers the member who requires legal assistance when called upon to appear before a Coroner's Inquest as a result of administration of professional services or omissions of $25,000 per policy period per insured.

  • Per Member, Annual Aggregate: $100,000
  • Deductible: Nil

Witness Expenses Coverage

Covers personal expenses when a member assists in the investigation or defence of a claim. It includes actual loss of earnings up to $500.00 per day.
