Publications Manager, The Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT)
(Parental leave replacement: 6-month term commencing March, 2010; possibility of extension)
CAMRT is the national professional association and certifying body for radiation, nuclear medicine and magnetic resonance imaging technologists and radiation therapists. It focuses on entry-level education and certification, continuing professional development, publication of a journal and professional practice to advance the profession and the health of Canadians. Founded in 1942, the CAMRT today represents over 11,000 members.
Position Summary
The Publications Manager is the primary contact person and administers the operational requirements for the development, printing and distribution of CAMRT publications, including the organization’s peer-reviewed professional journal.
Duties and Responsibilities
Serves as the managing editor for the Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences and is responsible for co-ordination of submissions; management of review process; recruitment of and support to authors, reviewers and volunteer editors; copy-editing of each edition; liaison with Elsevier, the journal publisher; management of the production and distribution of the Journal in collaboration with the Elsevier staff; management of book reviews and editing, production and dissemination of supplements to the Journal; developing and maintaining author and review guidelines; support to the Editor in Chief and editorial board; updates to journal web pages on the CAMRT and Elsevier websites.
Serves as the managing editor of the CAMRT newsletter, including solicitation of articles from staff and members; writing and editing of articles; co-ordination of design, production and dissemination of print and web versions of the newsletter; advertising sales.
Oversees the CAMRT web site and ensures the content is updated regularly and that the information on the web site is relevant.
Assists in the production and dissemination of special reports, including the annual report, and other relevant brochures and booklets.
Assists in the development and dissemination of regular E-News to the members of CAMRT.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal)
- A minimum of two years experience in a similar role
- Magazine /journal experience, with at least two years direct experience in the management and editing of peer -reviewed journals
- Demonstrable skill in newsletter production using Adobe Creative Suite,v.4 Design Premium edition
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Participative team player who works well under pressure
- Proven expertise in scheduling
- Excellent organizational skills
- A degree in Journalism, English or Communications
- Bilingualism ( English./French) preferred
Compensation is hourly, based on an annual salary range of $59, 303 - $67,000, with 4% vacation pay and paid statutory holiday. Benefits are not included.
