CAMRT certification examination policy for the number of examination writes and time frame

This policy applies to the certification examination in the four disciplines of radiological technology, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy and magnetic resonance. Candidates must successfully complete the examination in the discipline of the educational program they have completed.

Eligible candidates are permitted a maximum of four attempts to successfully complete the certification examination (one initial write and three rewrites) within a five-year time period.

  1. For graduates of a program offered in Canada in one of the disciplines of medical radiation technology which has been accredited by the CMA Conjoint Accreditation Committee, the candidate must complete the four attempts to pass the certification examination within five years of successful completion of the program, or by a date determined by a regulatory body.

  2. For graduates of a program offered outside Canada in medical radiation technology (internationally educated medical radiation technologists, IEMRTs), the candidate must complete the four attempts to pass the certification examination within five years of the date of last practice in medical radiation technology, or first certification exam write, or by a date determined by a regulatory body.

If a person is unable to successfully complete the certification examination within four attempts and the established timeframe, the person must complete a program in one of the disciplines of medical radiation technology which has been accredited by the CMA Conjoint Accreditation Committee.

Date effective - February 1, 2010.
