CAMRT’s New Director of Advocacy and Communications

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA, May 15, 2015 – The Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) is pleased to announce the appointment of Christopher (Chris) Topham as CAMRT’s new Director of Advocacy and Communications, effective July 6, 2015. Chris will replace Leacy O’Callaghan-O’Brien, who will retire on July 3.

Chris has been a valued member of the CAMRT staff team for over five years, serving as Project Consultant in the Professional Practice department. In this role, Chris has been instrumental in launching many new documents and information resources related to professional practice in medical radiation technology. Foremost among his accomplishments are the development of the highly successful Best Practice Guidelines website and his ongoing work on advanced practice for MRTs in Canada.

Chris also has long and varied relevant experience stretching beyond CAMRT. Prior to joining CAMRT, he worked for 4 years in the UK managing the communications of a strategic marketing firm that dealt with global pharmaceutical product launches. Earlier in his career, Chris worked for leading healthcare communications firms in Montreal as writer, editor and manager of editorial teams. He has a strong scientific education, with an MSc in Immunology and a BSc in Microbiology.

François Couillard, CEO of the CAMRT, noted his pleasure with this internal promotion. “We believe that Chris’ extensive expertise in strategic healthcare communications, together with his in-depth understanding of the MRT profession, will serve him well in his new responsibilities as Director of Advocacy and Communications,” says Mr. Couillard.
