Essay Competition Categories
Deadline for submission to both the essay and exhibit competition is March 29.
ATTENTION: The judging process for the competitive awards program has been modified. Among the changes is a return to the onsite judging of exhibits at the annual general conference, and the anonymity of authors. We request that authors not identify themselves on manuscripts and poster submissions (name, institution, locale) to ensure a fair judging process. Please read the essay and exhibit regulations carefully for further details.

Dr. Petrie Memorial Award

Description
Established in 1972 in honour of Dr. Edward A. Petrie for his many years of dedication to the CAMRT, this award is presented for the most innovative technical or educational essay on an advanced-level subject related to medical radiation technology (i.e. computer science, originality of device, technique or application). The author of the winning essay in this category receives $500 as well as a commemorative plaque/trophy.
Eligibility
The Dr. Petrie Memorial Award is open to students enrolled in accredited medical radiation technology education programs and to all medical radiation technologists who are CAMRT members in good standing.
L.J. Cartwright Student Award

Description
Established in 1978, this award honours Mr. Leslie J. Cartwright, RT, who served the association for 26 years as editor of the CAMRT's original publication, the Focal Spot.The L.J. Cartwright Award is presented for the best educational essay providing either a review or a new method to describe an established application or principle related to medical radiation technology (i.e. radiobiology and protection, imaging, etc.). The author of the winning essay in this category receives $500 as well as a commemorative plaque/trophy.
Eligibility
The L.J. Cartwright Award is open to students enrolled in accredited medical radiation technology education programs.
E.I. Hood Award

Description
The E.I. Hood Award was established in 1978 to honour Mrs. E.I. Hood, RT, RN, who served the Association for 17 years as Executive Secretary and Registrar. It is presented to the individual who submits the best essay on a non-technical subject related to medical radiation technology (i.e. departmental design or administration, economics, supply or training systems). The author of the winning essay in this category receives $500 as well as a commemorative plaque/trophy.
Eligibility
The E.I. Hood Award is open to all medical radiation technologists who are CAMRT members in good standing.
Sister Mary Arthur "Sharing the Light" Award

Description
Established in 1995, this award honours Sister Mary Arthur, RT, for her dedication to the CAMRT, her profession, her patients and students. It is presented to the individual who submits the best non-technical essay on a health care topic related to the patient or the caregiver (i.e. patient advocacy, stress and health care, adjuvant therapies, etc.). The author of the winning essay in this category receives $500 as well as a commemorative plaque/trophy.

The Sister Mary Arthur "Sharing the Light" Award is open to students enrolled in accredited medical radiation technology education programs and to medical radiation technologists who are CAMRT members in good standing.
CR/PACS Technology Award

Description
The CAMRT established this essay category in 1997. It is offered through the generous support of Agfa Medical Systems, a leading developer and supplier of PACS Technology across Canada and internationally. This essay category is presented for innovative technical or educational essays on the outcomes of utilization and application of PACS technology. The author of the winning essay in this category receives $500 as well as a commemorative plaque / trophy. Agfa will also contribute $500 towards the winner’s travel expenses to attend the CAMRT Annual General Conference.

The CR/PACS Technology Award is open to students enrolled in accredited medical radiation technology programs and to medical radiation technologists who are CAMRT members in good standing.
Bayer MR Award

Description
This award, established in 1998 by Berlex Canada, and now sponsored by Bayer Inc., is granted for an essay on any subject of educational and/or technical value related to magnetic resonance imaging. The author of the winning essay in this category will receive a commemorative plaque/trophy and $1,000. In addition, Bayer will contribute $500 towards the winner's travel expenses to attend the CAMRT Annual General Conference.
Eligibility
The Bayer MR Award is open to medical radiation technologists working in the field of magnetic resonance within an accredited institution.
